Closed positions: Copyeditor
The Journal of Geophysics, the oldest geophysical journal in the world in its fourth edition (50-year Impact Factor: 32.18), is looking for passionate individuals who believe in Open Access to research results.
The Technical Editor/Copywriter helps create website content to promote programs and services by presenting information in an appealing, informative, concise, and easy-to-understand manner to raise awareness by performing the following duties. She/he also copy-edits scientific papers submitted by researchers from all over the world.
Essential Functions
• Prepares contents and new website pages/sections to reflect JoG services & programs;
• Communicates with members of the Editorial Board and outside contacts such as authors, external reviewers, professional societies, universities, governmental agencies, and businesses;
• Proofreads and edits as necessary.
• Considers copyright laws such as registered/trademarked symbols and country of origin;
• Assists other service and program staff on other projects as needed.
Required Education & Experience
• Native speaker of the English language;
• Bachelor's or Masters in English (or other Humanities), Communications, or Marketing;
• Advanced degree (or pursuing current graduate coursework) in Earth Sciences desirable;
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and editing skills;
• Previous experience as a copywriter/website content specialist preferred;
• Experience in the web development field and managing digital content;
• Strong organization skills with emphasis on being conscientious and detail-oriented;
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work with minimal supervision remotely.
